Plumbing and water damage in Toronto

For Toronto homeowners the plumbing and the water damage are often one problem seen from two ends. After the 2013 storm the City created its Basement Flooding Protection Subsidy Program, which helps pay for protective work such as backwater valves. That is worth knowing because the usual sequence after a flood is two jobs: a plumber or drain contractor fixes the cause, and a restoration crew dries and repairs what got wet. Doing one without the other invites a repeat. Older Toronto houses also carry aging drain lines, and condominium towers add a different wrinkle: a leak in one unit often reaches the units below, and the building's management and insurer become part of the job.

What a plumbing and restoration job involves

A plumbing call starts with locating the leak or blockage, often with a camera, then repairing or replacing the failed section. Restoration starts with extraction, removal of wet materials and structural drying, and mold remediation only where growth is found. Carpet cleaning after a water loss works only when the water was clean and the padding is dry or replaced. Ask who covers what, what must be documented for the insurer, and whether permits are needed. whether to call a plumber or a restoration company first explains the order, and the adjuster's visit and choosing a restoration company covers the claim side.
