Bradenton has recent proof of what Gulf surge does. Hurricane Helene in September 2024 flooded several Bradenton neighborhoods, county officials called the surge unprecedented, and water rose more than two feet inside some homes. About two weeks later Hurricane Milton brought winds above 100 mph to Bradenton and Lakewood Ranch, and property damage in unincorporated Manatee County alone was put above $351 million.
That sequence explains the usual shape of a job here: floodwater first, then a roof opened by wind, then rain through the opening. Bay and surge water are treated as contaminated water, not as a plumbing leak, because they carry sewage, silt and whatever else the flood picked up.
Crews pump out water, remove saturated carpet, pad, insulation and drywall, then dry what remains with monitored equipment. Mold and smoke work follow the same logic: control the source, contain the area, then clean or remove.
Some companies also handle the rebuild, and some stop at mitigation, so ask which part of the work is included and who pulls permits. See burst pipe or flood: plumber or restoration company first for how to sequence the calls, and what to expect from water extraction and drying for the drying stage itself.
