Water damage in Elk Grove Village

Elk Grove Village is best known for the largest industrial park in North America, about six square miles with more than 400 manufacturers and 3,600 businesses next to O'Hare. A water loss there is a commercial problem: inventory, equipment and operations are at stake, not just drywall and carpet.

The village also has a flood history. In late April 2013, Salt Creek rose to 15.6 feet, and the areas along Cypress Lane, Elk Grove Boulevard and Reverend Morrison Boulevard were hit hardest. The business park has its own drainage story: an engineering study found that its open ditches had lost capacity to sediment and vegetation since the park was built, which left sub-standard protection in significant storms.

What a commercial water job involves

A commercial job starts with protecting what matters most: shutting off the source, moving or covering inventory and equipment, and keeping the business running if possible. Extraction and drying follow, with moisture mapping across large floor areas and sometimes multiple tenants. Ask who is documenting the loss, how downtime is tracked for the insurer, and whether the contractor is working to a written scope and schedule. Our guide to documenting your loss before the cleanup starts applies to a business as much as a home, and water extraction and drying explains the process.
