Air duct, water and carpet work in Wallington

Wallington sits on the Passaic River, and the river has defined the borough's worst days. The flood of 1903 covered about a quarter of the town. In August 2011, Hurricane Irene flooded it twice in three days, first when the river rose on Sunday and again when it rose a second time on Tuesday.

Basements are where heating and cooling equipment often sits, so a flood does not stop at the carpet. Ductwork that took in floodwater or damp air can hold contamination and moisture long after the visible mess is gone, and wet carpet and pad start to smell quickly.

What the work involves

Air ducts. Cleaning is done with agitation and negative air so dust and debris are pulled out of the system. Ask whether the job covers the whole run or only the registers. Ducts that were submerged may need replacing, not cleaning. Water. Extraction, then drying with readings until dry. Carpet. Floodwater carpet is usually replaced; clean-water carpet can often be extracted, treated and dried.
