Water damage in Hudson

Hudson is on the Pasco County Gulf coast, where the danger is water arriving from the bay instead of from the sky. During Hurricane Helene in September 2024, water in Hudson Beach rose several feet in a matter of hours, almost every home in one mobile home park flooded, and one homeowner gutted a single-story house that had taken nearly four feet of water. Hudson had already been hit by Hurricane Idalia the year before.

The aftermath has its own risks. In one Hudson neighborhood a flooded house caught fire after power was restored, a reminder that wet wiring and outlets should be checked before anything is switched back on. Pasco County also received more than 2,400 permit applications after the storm, so repairs can be slow, and wet materials left in place while waiting can grow mold.

What a water damage job involves

The work is extraction, removal of materials that cannot be saved, structural drying with air movers and dehumidifiers, and moisture readings until the building is dry. Surge water is treated as contaminated, and for that the standard is removal, not drying.
